"Typical Panama City drought. As I hated landscape pictures (at the time) I was very happy to have all that fog disguising the panorama of the city and create something graphical." - Phillip Kaminia

Phillip Kaminiak’s photograph’s look is a mix of classical flash street photography of the 80ies to 90ies, with a slight sense of fashion or portrait photography. The use of flash, small rangefinder cameras, rather wide lenses, a physical closeness to his subjects and 35mm film gives the pictures something raw and glossy at the same time. This has a significant effect on the question you might have standing in front of many of his pictures: „Is it staged or is it documentary“?

Meet Philip Kiminiak

Phillip Kaminiak is a German-Polish photographer and filmmaker based in Mexico-City, Mexico. He graduated from „Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin" in 2013.

His short films and documentaries were screened at film festivals all over the world and he created more than 400 Commercials and music-videos until today.

Phillip began to expand his eyes and skills to the field of photography. He worked on many commercial projects for music magazines and artists, in fashion and advertising.

His personal work is a rather wild mix of street, portrait and documentary photography. intimate moments, quiet observations and weird sceneries. For him personally photography is a form of self-expression meant for himself and those viewers - who love to have this constant question mark in the back of their heads when discovering his pictures
