Art photography by Nairobi-based Kenyan photographer Edwin Maina. Lake Victoria, Kenya - 2021.

Exclusive edition of 20 pieces.

A limited edition is the fixed number of copies for one individual artwork indicating how often it exists worldwide. Each print comes with a Certification of Authenticity hand signed by the artist.

I was on vacation for my birthday with my friends on the Island of Rusinga along Lake Victoria. We spent days exploring the island, and I really admired how the people interacted with the lake, which acts as their main source of income and livelihood. The fathers and older sons usually cast fishing nets and leave them throughout the night, and when the morning comes, the women and the other siblings all go down to the shores to pull the nets and collect the fish. I was really inspired, and this forced me to grab my camera, which I had not intended on using during the stay. I styled one of my friends and captured this picture. It's part of the series "Jonam" - "People of the Lake."

Meet Edwin Maina

Edwin Maina is a Nairobi-based, self-taught Kenyan photographer who uses photography as his artistic outlet to replace words, capturing the environments he inhabits and the people he meets. His work is for the culture—to put it on the global map and share the unique experiences that connect and define it. Through styling, set creation, and photography, Edwin reimagines African culture in ways rarely explored before, blending fashion and art photography to tell compelling stories. A painter since childhood, he seamlessly merges his artist’s eye with his photographic vision, finding inspiration in collaborations with professionals across the creative arts industry. Edwin is also a member of the Urban Pitchaz, a four-man artist collective dedicated to telling authentic African stories through fashion and photography.
