Designed and crafted by artisans via Mexican foundation Ensamble Artesano in collaboration with Zaavia.

The braiding technique in Guerrero has been carried out for more than 30 years and Tlapehuala is no exception. The making of this fine braid is done using spirals with pieces on the machine, which makes this fabric the finest and most moldable in the area. In this case, flat oval tablecloths have been created. The palm application measures 24 cm long by 7 cm wide.

The piece is complemented on the front with wine-colored cowhide, made by leather workers in CDMX, and has a 9 cm diameter Huanacaxtle tropical wood ring. It closes and adjusts with pegs on both sides.
Zaavia, founded in 2018 by Paloma Romero, aims to raise awareness about the textile industry's environmental impact. This Mexican brand focuses on creating sustainable fashion, transforming natural materials into eco-friendly, functional art.

    Meet Ensamble Artesano

Ensamble Artesano is a non-profit platform, designed as a space for exchange and collaboration to combat the economic uncertainty for artisans in Mexico precipitated by the pandemic. Today, it supports more than three thousand artisans across 22 states in Mexico, in partnership with 83 organizations. It has evolved into an important hub, forging collaborative networks to strengthen the craft sector.

Their objective, in addition to preserving and celebrating artisan creation as well as promoting innovation in traditional design, is to give recognition and reinforce the maintenance of formal and fair value chains that have created horizontal work links and that guarantee a source of income for indigenous and rural communities in Mexico.
